Northwestern Water & Sewer District

Willowbend Pump Station

Project consisted of the construction of a new sanitary sewer pump station, 5,100-feet of 12- inch through 20-inch force main by open-cut and trenchless methods in Perrysburg Township in Wood County and Monclova Township in Lucas County. Also included in the project, was interconnections of several force mains and the abandonment of the existing pump station. A unique characteristic of this pump station was that the pumping heads for the station are much lower due to a new alignment being selected for the force main discharging at the Lucas County WRRF.

The project involved the placement of the new pump station upon the existing site which could not be enlarged due to existing development on both sides of the site. The confined site required a detailed analysis of the construction sequencing and structure placement to permit the existing station to remain online as long as possible, minimize bypass pumping while achieving the optimal layout for the new features on the site.

Key to this project was the complex hydraulic analysis of the operation of three pump stations, including Willowbend, that share three separate force mains crossing under the Maumee River. All three force mains join into one 20-inch force main.

The project was awarded for a bid price of $2,565,230.00. Construction start date was November 2021 and substantially completed on November 2023.
