Engineer for a Day

Engineer for a Day

Inspiring, educating, and motivating the engineers of tomorrow.

As part of the University of Toledo’s recent “Engineer for a Day” event, Jones & Henry welcomed students from Toledo Early College, offering them a glimpse into the world of engineering through a series of engaging, hands-on learning activities.

students immersed themselves in an interactive environment that highlighted the full lifecycle of an engineering project. Our enthusiastic Young Professionals (YPs) guided them through each stage, offering invaluable insights into what it takes to succeed in the engineering field. They engaged the students in thoughtful discussions about college pathways, career opportunities, and the skills required to thrive in this dynamic industry.

One of the highlights of the event was the chance for students to roll up their sleeves and dive into two hands-on activities. Tasked with designing and building their own water filtration and distribution systems, students collaborated on their projects. They learned about key concepts such as fluid dynamics, materials selection, and the importance of problem-solving in engineering. The challenge forced teams to think critically about their designs and to consider factors such as efficiency and sustainability. This interactive component helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, igniting a passion for engineering among many participants.

The discussions that followed were equally enlightening. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and gain insights directly from the YPs, sparking conversations about the various career paths in engineering and the exciting innovations currently shaping the field.

Overall, the “Engineer for a Day” event was a tremendous success, fostering a positive connection between academia and industry while inspiring the next generation of innovators.
