The American Council of Engineering Companies of Ohio (ACEC Ohio) has recognized Jones & Henry Engineers with a 2025 Engineering Excellence Award. The Outstanding Achievement Award acknowledges the Ford Road Pump Station replacement project for the Northwestern Water & Sewer District (”The District”).
The Ford Road Pump Station, a vital component of the region’s water management system, underwent a transformative upgrade through a comprehensive design overhaul. The previous pump station, which had become outdated and inefficient, was upgraded to a modern submersible-style design that is more efficient and safer for operations and the surrounding environment. The project incorporates cutting-edge technology and thoughtful engineering, featuring variable-speed drives that allow the new pump station to adjust effectively to fluctuating water flow conditions. A visually appealing control building blends into the community.
Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and enough capacity to handle The District’s long-term sewage pumping needs, the Ford Road project establishes a new standard for sustainable, community-integrated infrastructure by minimizing environmental impact and accommodating future growth.
“Replacing the Ford Road Pump Station was a critical infrastructure improvement for The District,” says Ted Bennett, PE, Vice President and Director of Infrastructure for Jones & Henry, who led the project. “I’m pleased we were able to position The District for the future with a modern, high-capacity facility.”
The undertaking had special significance to Ted, as he had been involved in the previous renovation in 2003 while a young engineer working at the Northwestern Water & Sewer District.
“From a personal perspective, I always hoped to get a chance to design The District’s Ford Road Pump Station replacement,” says Ted. “I knew how important the Pump Station is and that replacing the aged, hard-to-maintain, and capacity-limited 1960s-era station would be a significant effort. It’s long been in the back of my mind as a project I wanted to tackle. Being selected to lead and manage it was a great honor.”
The annual Engineering Excellence Awards Competition shines a well-deserved light on the Ohio engineering industry by identifying projects demonstrating exceptional uniqueness, ingenuity, and value. ACEC Ohio invites companies to enter their best projects, including construction designs, engineering reports, and studies.
A panel of judges evaluates entries on originality, technical value to the engineering profession, social and economic considerations, complexity, and the extent to which the project met the client’s needs.
