Rylan Elliott’s personal mission to build a better future is driven by purpose, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to community.
Rylan Elliott was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and grew up in a lively household with three older brothers. The dynamic home environment, paired with his parents’ influence, nurtured his desire to care for others from a young age. Rylan attended Bishop Chatard High School, where he participated in track and field, competing in shot put and discus, and swam on the school’s swim team. Those formative years laid the groundwork for his future endeavors.
Finding Purpose in Education
Like many students, Rylan faced a pivotal decision about college. The weight of choosing a career path was daunting; he wanted to blend purpose, enjoyment, and financial stability. After thoughtful consideration, he chose Purdue University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Ecological Engineering.
During his time at Purdue, Rylan excelled not only academically but also by taking on various roles that enriched his skills and experience. Serving as an Undergraduate Researcher helped him hone critical-thinking and public-speaking abilities—proficiencies that would prove invaluable in his engineering career. Additionally, he worked in a dining court, served as a supervisor during the school year, and took summer jobs ranging from icebox mechanic to pizza delivery.
One of the highlights of Rylan’s college experience was his involvement in the Purdue Water Supply in Developing Countries Class program. The hands-on experience allowed him to work on projects aimed at delivering clean water to underserved communities. His work in rural locations—such as repairing a rainwater collection system in Las Canas, Dominican Republic, and installing a groundwater well in El Desecho—solidified his commitment to making a difference. Rylan firmly believes that “Giving people access to clean, safe water is a worthwhile—and interesting—endeavor,” and this ethos guides his work.
After earning his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Ecological Engineering in 2023, Rylan continued his academic journey by attaining a Master of Science in the same field.
Career Evolution at Jones & Henry
In 2023, Rylan joined Jones & Henry as a Co-Op and quickly transitioned to a full-time Engineer II within a year. His role is multifaceted; from design work to serving as a Resident Project Representative, he ensures that construction projects align with contract specifications and safety standards. Every day presents new challenges and learning opportunities, and Rylan thrives in this dynamic environment.
With aspirations to earn his Professional Engineer (PE) designation within the next year, Rylan embraces new responsibilities and remains dedicated to his field of engineering.
Balancing Work and Personal Life
Beyond career accomplishments, Rylan’s personal life is equally vibrant and fulfilling. He and his fiancée, Marta, began dating during their junior year of college. Rylan proposed at a historic lighthouse while they were vacationing in Mykonos, Greece, and the couple plans to marry next year.
Recently, the couple moved into a new apartment in Carmel. Marta, who works as a pediatric nurse, shares Rylan’s commitment and dedication. “She is an incredibly hard worker with an unbelievable capacity for kindness and care,” says Rylan. “I have immense love and respect for her.”
Outside of work and family life, Rylan enjoys a variety of hobbies, including riding his Suzuki SV650 motorcycle, a passion passed down from his father, and playing pickleball. He also finds joy in cooking, exploring new cuisines, and traveling and camping during his free time.
Rylan is also an avid reader fostered by his childhood love of The Redwall series, a well-known epic fantasy collection written by British author Brian Jacques. Today, he reads a lot by Brandon Sanderson (The Stormlight Archive), Jim Butcher (The Dresden Files), and James Islington (The Hierarchy), with themes that feature protagonists who are underdogs standing up for what they believe.
A Legacy of Compassion
One of Rylan’s strongest influences was his grandfather Jack, a softspoken man who lived through the Great Depression and, as a pilot, flew supply missions during World War II. In addition to teaching Rylan how to garden (and rewarding him with a $5 bill for his assistance), Jack taught Rylan the meaning of stubborn compassion. Despite facing hardships, Jack continually found ways to help others.
“He always had money set aside to lend to people who were struggling,” recalls Rylan, “even knowing he would not always get it back.” Rylan strives to carry that legacy of kindness forward in his own life.

Through his work in environmental engineering, he is not just building infrastructure; he’s building a better future—one project at a time.
