With apologies to
Clement Clarke Moore.
‘Twas the day before Christmas, and all was quiet at last,
At Jones & Henry Engineers, the late rush had passed.
The blueprints were rolled up, all snug, put away,
As our hardworking team members wrapped up their day.
The BIM models were tested, and the drawings compiled,
Every project, precise. Every detail well-styled.
Our plans for new pipelines were laid out with care,
Ensuring that clean water would flow everywhere.
The team members gathered, our minds all aglow,
With visions of wellfields and studies of flow.
From treatment plants humming to reservoirs clear,
We’d tackled wastewater, dispelling all fear.
As the clock ticked away and our spirits ran high,
From sketching new pathways for water supply.
From pumps to filtration, with valves that all gleam,
We dreamed of clean waters—a bright, hopeful dream.
When suddenly outside, there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair to see what could be the matter.
There, soaring with reindeer and landing with grace,
Was Santa himself, with a smile on his face!
Up the elevator he bounded, with a sack full of dreams,
For treatment facilities and ingenious new schemes.
With spring in his step, down the hallway he came,
Greeted each teammate and called us by name.
Now Bradley! Now Aaron! Now Jakob and Heather!
On Philip! On Brian! And Jeffry and Peter!
To the conference room, come. Please answer my call.
Now dash right in! Dash right in! Dash right in, all!
He spoke of pure rivers and lakes, clear and wide,
How our efforts ensure that good health will abide.
“Your designs move the water. Your systems are key,
To keeping communities as safe as can be.”
He worried about challenges that lay in the way,
And cities that thirsted and streams led astray.
We showed him our visions of townships so bright,
With clean, flowing water—an incredible sight.
“Ho, ho, ho!” he called out, admiring our designs,
He marveled at the drawings—oh, what clever minds!
“Your source studies are vital, you must understand,
To protecting resources all over this land.”
Then he filled every workspace with treats and delights,
With gadgets and gizmos, making spirits so bright.
The engineers gasped, then erupted with glee,
For Santa had come to Jones & Henry!
With a wink and a nod, he took to the night,
And exclaimed with great joy, ere he drove out of sight,
“Here’s to Jones & Henry, engineers of renown,
You’re champions of water in each city and town!”
Then we gathered together, with laughter and cheer,
Celebrating the season and the end of the year.
In the heart of the office, a warmth filled the air,
For it’s more than engineering; it’s for the world that we care.
